Descrição
White children ride carnival rides as poor black children watch on March 13, 2009 in Philippolis, in the Free state province, South Africa. The village is one of the oldest Afrikaner villages in South Africa and was a thoroughfare for the old road between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Most people make a living on farming sheep, as the climate is too harsh for other forms of farming. Most of the people are white and conservative in this area, about 400 miles south of Johannesburg. The white farmers have economic power in the village with black and colored townships in the outskirts of the town. Many of the farmers are members of AWB, , a right wing organization that opposed the black led government in 1994. At this farm show most of the black people could not afford to buy anything or ride on the different attractions. Get premium, high resolution news photos at getty
