General view of the snow-covered Great Wall at Badaling, 08 November 2003, north of Beijing. One of the earliest and heaviest snowfalls in recent years blanketed the Chinese capital turning it into a winter white landscape, as thrillseekers brave the wind and cold to see China's most famous landmark. The widely held belief that the Great Wall is the only man-made object visible from outer space was put to an end by China's first man in orbit, Yang Liwei, who said the scenerey from space during his 21-hour orbit of earth in October was beautiful but he couldn't see the Great Wall.
