Sculpture from one of the pioneers of the constructionist movement this is one of Lygia Clark's Bicho sculptures. Lygia Clark, was a Brazilian artist best known for her painting and installation work. She was often associated with the Brazilian Constructivist movements of the mid-20th century and the Tropicalia movement. Her works have been exhibited in numerous prestigious galleries including MoMA (New York), Tate Modern (London) and Centre Pompidou (Paris). This original sculpture in brass is entitled Bicho meaning Critter, it defies the idea of sculpture as a static idealized form. It was specifically designed with the intention of being folded, turned, opened and closed by the viewer to explore its multifaceted nature. Consisting of geometric shapes connected through hinges, Lygia Clark created a sculpture that was not only participatory but also seemingly infinite in its variability. Includes notarized letter of provenance detailing the chain of ownership from the original sale at the Signals Gallery in London in the year 1964. We welcome all reasonable offers.
