Since the annual Colorado Wildfire Academy is taking place in Carbondale <cq>, academy participants took a special trip to tour the trail that leads along the path of where the fire occured about 10 miles west of Glenwood Springs and north above the Colorado River <cq>. The group was accompanied by Eric Hipke <cq> one of the survivors of the blaze that took the life of 14 firefighters <cq>. ABOVE: On top of the mountain are 14 crosses left in the exact spot where each firefighter perished. This is the cross of Scott Blecha <cq> 1967 - 1994 <cq>, who was a Prineville Hotshot and made it to the top of the mountain but was overcome by the fire <cq>.
